Me, Myself, and a few others
There are approximately 7.5 billion people on the Earth, now there is no possible way to meet everyone, so we must stick to a set group of people whether that be two people or even two-hundred. However there are always going to be people that leave their marks on us.
The first person that left a huge mark on me is my father, coincidently his name happens to be , Mark. Mark Allen DeLancey, he group up as a poor, unruly child, soon to be straightened out when he entered the military at the age of 16, became a military police officer, eventually a Green Barrett, and fought in operation desert storm. Later he would return to his hometown to become a police officer, work his way up the ranks, until he gained the rank of Chief of Police, where he still resides today.
My father was very strict on me growing up, everything had to be a certain way and done by a certain time. I was never usually allowed to stay out very late, and I was often disciplined whenever I committed wrongdoings or never lived up to an expectations. I never understood why, I always thought maybe he did not like me, maybe he was just a grumpy person. It wasn't until I turned about 18 was when I realized, while he is still a grumpy man, he did all of those things to build me, to make me into a good person. I always show up somewhere at least 10 minutes early, I have never drank nor smoked anything, and certainly never lie or steal. These are the values he has pounded into my head, and with good reason .
My father has also gotten me into my favorite past time, fishing. He introduced me into the outdoors at a very young age, I would say around four or five. Taking me on the boat, walks through the woods, and eventually hunting and fishing.
As much as I hate admitting it sometimes, my father has been my biggest mentor. He has tough me how to be a man , take care of myself, and to enjoy the small things in life. I wouldn't be nearly the same person today without him.
The second influential person in my life is my high school track coach. John Epperson. Or as I have called him since I was 11, "Epp". I met John when I was 11 when my sister ran track for him, after she graduated it would be a couple more years until I saw him again. As soon as I stepped on the track my 7th grade year, we connected extremely well, however high school was when we started getting even more close.
A huge lesson he taught me, was that losing is a part of life, no matter how hard you train, how good you are, there will always be somebody ready to take over, be happy with what you have accomplished and always do your best. I slowly watched my coach become one of my best friends, he helped me on and off the track with him being my math teacher, helped me when I needed it.
My coach trained me to be one of the best pole vaulters to ever come through the great state of Ohio. I got the chance to sign my name on the 'Vault cone" something that is behind glass that only 13 others have gotten the chance to sign since 1989. All of this is because of him, it is because of his coaching that I am able to compete at Eastern Michigan University.
I tend not to look for inspiration in celebrities or pro athletes like most, however there are some people who I have never even been near that I look up to, the 35th president of the United States of America. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, though deceased his ideas and face will live on forever.
President Kennedy was a sailor in World War Two in the navy, many people do not realize that Kennedy was a war hero. Kennedy saved 6 of his shipmates and dragged two of them to safety after a torpedo his their gunner ship. Though many believe that he almost drove the United States into a nuclear war, that isn't exactly true.
John Kennedy once said something that continues to be the most inspirational quote in my life, he said "Do not pray for easier lives, pray to be stronger men". This gives me chills just because it is such simple words, yet can change a person. President John Kennedy will always be an inspirational man to me, he said things that others dare not say at that time, and I declare him as one of the best presidents as a whole.
President John Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963. Shot presumably by Lee Harvey Oswald(I don't believe that). His words and actions will live on forever, a man willing to do anything for his country, an inspiration for many.
